The area did receive some rain late Friday afternoon, but it stopped in time for the fireworks in Columbus that night. Law enforcement agents using horses and helicopters found the bodies of 11 aliens in the scorching Arizona desert Sunday, bringing to 13 the number of El Salvadoreans known to have died after being stranded without water by smugglers An addi tional 13 aliens were reported safe and an undetermined number made their way back to Mexico. Bjorn Borg won his 5th consercutive Wimbledon tennis championship Saturday. He Defeated John McEnroe 1-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-7, 8-6 in one of the greatest matches ever played. Evonne Goolagong of Australia won the women’s title as she defeated Chris Evert Lloyd 6-1, 7-6. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves at the 4th of July celebration in Columbus and at Coon Dog Day in Saluda Saturday. WLOS-TV had shots of the Coon Dog Day Celebration. Many others enjoyed the water at Lake Lanier, Lake Adger and Continued On Back Page Ray J. Foster Sam Frazier, president of Tryon Motors, Inc has announc ed that Ray J. Foster is now a partner and vice president of Tryon Motors. Inc. Mr. Frazier said that he was pleased to have Mr. Foster join the firm. Mr. Foster will remain at Tryon Federal Savings & Loan Associa tion where he is Vice President and Sec.-Treas. A native of Lynn, Mr. Foster is married to the former Louise Henderson of Landrum. They have two daughters, Mrs. Grant Vosburgh (Robin) of Fayetteville and Ms. Debra Foster of Lynn. He is a member of Pacolet Baptist Church in Lynn and is a Master Mason and a member of the Jeff L. Nelson Lodge. He is a former chairman of the Polk County Board of Elections; July 4th Is Busy For Sheriff’s Dept. The Polk County Sheriff’s Department had a busy July 4th. During the Fabulous 4th, one was arrested for public drunkeness, 3 for fighting, 4 for threatening with a gun and some firecrackers were confiscated from some boys. Saturday night about midnight 3 boys were arrested for breaking and entering Red Fox Country Club and at about the same time 2 were arrested for breaking in the store building at Bulls Eye Camp at Saluda. Also Saturday night one man was arrested for stealing a pistol out of a car and two were arrested for driving under the influence. There were also two minor auto accidents in Green River Cove. Tryon Lions Meet Tonight The Tryon Lions Club will meet tonight at 7:30 at the Paceolet River Plantation. Frank Gustaf son will be the guest speaker and will show slides taken in Canada.
